Peacham Act 46 Update April 2017

In February 2017 the Peacham School Board accepted the Peacham Act 46 Study Committee final report and at Town Meeting it was discussed and accepted by voters.

At this time, Peacham School District will remain an independent school district and will work collaboratively with our neighbors to form a Supervisory Union under Act 46.

Our neighbors—K-8 Barnet, Walden, and Waterford; and K-12 Danville, Cabot, and Twinfield—have scheduled votes on their Act 46 proposals in May and June.

Peacham will revise the committee report linked above into an Alternative Structure application to the Vermont State Board of Education. This will be submitted by November 30th to the Secretary of Education.

Once our neighbors have voted, we will form a new Supervisory Union. The application Peacham makes to the SBE will request Peacham be a member of this supervisory union.

The final structure could look like this depending on the outcome of the votes:

SCENARIO ONE:
Supervisory Union
K-8 | One board: Walden, Barnet & Waterford
K-12 | One board: Cabot, Twinfield & Danville
K-6 | One board: Peacham

A total of seven towns represented by three school boards.

SCENARIO TWO:
Alternatively it could look like this depending on the passage of S122

3/1/1 APPLICATION K-8 | One board: Walden, Barnet & Waterford; K-6 Peacham as an existing district

3/1/1 APPLICATION K-12 | One board: Cabot, Twinfield & Danville; K-12 BMU as geographically isolated

A total of eight towns represented by three school boards.

SCENARIO THREE:
K-8 | One board: Walden, Barnet, Waterford
K-12 | One board: Cabot, Twinfield
K-12 | One board: Danville, BMU
K-6 | One board: Peacham

THIS REPORT WILL BE UPDATED AFTER OUR NEIGHBORS VOTE.
